This is one my favorite summer events. $3 cans of beer, hot dogs, bunch of people racing on bikes.

Late May in the Keweenaw peninsula. Temperatures struggled to get above 50 and most of the trees were still bare. This was a camping trip but these pictures are just cool buildings I came across. I’d kill to travel back in time and see some of these towns in early 1900s (obviously before prohibition). Think I’ll do another post with nature pics. With most of these small but not too small towns there’s usually a really cool downtown area with old buildings, etc. Then a couple miles away there’s the parkinglot hellscape with Wal-Mart, strip malls, and all that noise. At least they didn’t bulldoze this downtown to build a mall #greenbay. ...
Most of the time driving sucks, especially in large cities. One of our favorite things to do locally is take the train down to Chicago, then get around there on the city trains. It’s the closest city with an actual functioning transit system. There’s something really awesome about trains, I’ve become somewhat obsessed with them. My early 20s self with loud exhaust would be dissapointed.
I forgot about this site since my last post and just wanted to post something to keep the habit going. Random pics over the last week or so. All shot on the GR IV mostly with my ‘old school’ recipe. This is like Instagram filters all over again. Except I used AI to come up with exactly what I want based on the settings this camera offers. Does it count as creativity when you don’t figure it out yourself? Who cares. ...
Whitefish Bay is a ‘village’ about 5 miles north of downtown Milwaukee. I’ve spent 10 years of my life living here, but not consecutively. I was walking around today thinking about it and how I usually focus on the stuff I don’t like. For example, there’s annoying kids all over, there’s like 2 bars that suck, and people make fun of you when you say you live here. Alright so let’s focus on the positives, I mean to spend 1/4 of your life somewhere without positives would be sad. For me the location is pretty good. I can walk to a grocery store, a Target, etc. and bike just about anywhere I need to. It’s a 15-20 min bike ride downtown on the trail. Not having to drive when bar hopping is a must. ...
I’m not really a car guy, but I love seeing old cars around town even if they aren’t running. New cars suck for many reasons. To name a few…touch buttons, warning messages, obnoxiously bright headlights, too many annoying beeps, too many annoying warning messages, auto brights, automatic start/stop, subscription features, etc. etc. My first few cars were from the early 90s with manual transmissions. I really miss that, the feeling of actually interacting with the car while driving. Today driving is just…uninspiring. ...
I saw some film photos from the 90s that had a specific look. I uploaded a few of the photos to ChatGPT then asked it to come up with a recipe to mimic that look on the GR IV. I’m pretty happy with the results. It took a bit of experimentation to dial in. Thanks to Shoua for the portrait.
I’ve really been into the high contract black and white recipe on my Ricoh cameras. It works so well with urban and industrial shots.
