Whitefish Bay is a ‘village’ about 5 miles north of downtown Milwaukee. I’ve spent 10 years of my life living here, but not consecutively. I was walking around today thinking about it and how I usually focus on the stuff I don’t like. For example, there’s annoying kids all over, there’s like 2 bars that suck, and people make fun of you when you say you live here.
Alright so let’s focus on the positives, I mean to spend 1/4 of your life somewhere without positives would be sad. For me the location is pretty good. I can walk to a grocery store, a Target, etc. and bike just about anywhere I need to. It’s a 15-20 min bike ride downtown on the trail. Not having to drive when bar hopping is a must.
Being that I’m super old, it’s also nice that it’s pretty quiet. My noise tolerance is probably closer to a typical elderly person. A common issue in the Milwaukee metro is loud ass motorcycles, not really an issue in this neighborhood. Leaf blowers are a problem however, don’t get me started on those POS things.
Finally, there’s the proximity to the lake. Most of the lakefront is at the base of bluffs. This totally dampens the sound from the city. Sometimes in the dead of winter when there’s little wind it’s almost silent. The major downside to the lake is that in spring/early summer a lake breeze often forms which can knock the temperature down from the 70s to 40s. Yuck.
Anyway, that’s my current reflection on this 2 square mile place.
